Bio

Fanis Hinas (Marathia, Evrytania, 1940 - Volos, 12 February 1992) was a Greek actor. He played in the series "The Return", which was broadcast on state television in the autumn of 1982. He graduated from the Pelos Katselis Drama School and made his debut in 1961 with the Karolos Koun Art Theatre, in the play "The New Children" by Z. Lacour. During the years of the dictatorship he emigrated to France, where he attended, among other things, pantomime seminars alongside Marcel Marceau. In cinema he starred in the films: "We the Sinners" (1966), "The Face of Medusa" (1966), "Society Hour Zero" (1966), "Yes, but..." (1972). On television he starred in the series: "Paradise Lost" (1977), "Return" (1982) and "All the Glory, All the Grace" (1988). For his participation in the film "Knock Out" with Giorgos Kimoulis, he won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in 1986. His faithful rendition of the poem "Preveza" by Kostas Karyotakis, a rare audio excerpt that has been preserved, was historic. Moreover, Chinas was very close to Karyotakis due to his psychological makeup. Also amazing was his recitation of "Monogram" by Odysseas Elytis, which is also preserved in the ERT archive. Fanis Chinas was a solitary character. In the last years of his life, he was addicted to alcohol, resulting in his death at the age of only 52, from encephalitis. As a small tribute to his person, the Municipal Theater of Dafni was named after him.
